Its time...to give for those who gave...

Our Country celebrates “Remembrance Day” known as “World Poppy Day” on 9th November 2009, where this year is celebrated through peace after three decades of terrorism.

This cruel war took lives away of thousands of war heroes, took away heart beats of many families, who sacrificed a son, a brother or a husband to war…

Today, nearly 24,000 heroes of our land have fought for freedom and are resting for ever in our motherland. More than 5000 soldiers in Sri Lanka are wholly disabled...

They sacrificed their eyes… hands...legs… flesh and blood in hope of one nation…

They sacrificed hope… love… life… to make today a better tomorrow …

Its time to give for those who gave…

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust...
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain..,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain”

- From the poem ‘For the Fallen’

All proceeds from the Poppy Day sale are used to provide welfare and other facilities for disabled soldiers and dependents of soldiers who sacrificed their lives. The red poppy was adopted as the symbol of remembrance and its petals symbolized the blood left by soldiers… All funds will be given to Sri Lanka Ex-Service men's Association which has a membership drawn from the Army, Navy and Air Force...
