Its time...to give for those who gave...

Our Country celebrates “Remembrance Day” known as “World Poppy Day” on 9th November 2009, where this year is celebrated through peace after three decades of terrorism.

This cruel war took lives away of thousands of war heroes, took away heart beats of many families, who sacrificed a son, a brother or a husband to war…

Today, nearly 24,000 heroes of our land have fought for freedom and are resting for ever in our motherland. More than 5000 soldiers in Sri Lanka are wholly disabled...

They sacrificed their eyes… hands...legs… flesh and blood in hope of one nation…

They sacrificed hope… love… life… to make today a better tomorrow …

Its time to give for those who gave…

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust...
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain..,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain”

- From the poem ‘For the Fallen’

All proceeds from the Poppy Day sale are used to provide welfare and other facilities for disabled soldiers and dependents of soldiers who sacrificed their lives. The red poppy was adopted as the symbol of remembrance and its petals symbolized the blood left by soldiers… All funds will be given to Sri Lanka Ex-Service men's Association which has a membership drawn from the Army, Navy and Air Force...

Join hands with us to give for those who gave…

A new dawn… a new era… a new beginning…

“Our Club is like a computer system... there are different kinds of softwares… some are vital for existence… some existing softwares are not compatible with highly automated new softwares… there are some softwares which after installation we realize its virus… by the time we realize it, some softwares in the system are already affected.. We have no choice than un-installing these softwares along with cleaning the virus” quoted by President Leo Dilhari…

It was not easy… Not at all easy when half of the softwares were affected with virus… But still the system keeps running when the vital organs are up and active, how can it NOT when we have a superb virus guard to scan and clean… he he

Sometimes doing the correct thing gives us courage to go on… go on to be the best with a strength we had never before… If anyone noticed the 7 of us who were behind “diffracted” would have noticed the sleepless nights and strain behind the smiling faces… Empty pockets and last minute pressurized drama… Also if anyone noticed closely it must have been clear to see the happy faces tied with a true bond of spirit and friendship….

Someone said “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.”
Here we are… with the same pace, same charisma and same spirit… only better with 7 new talented softwares installed ;)

Here we are…. we've just begun
and after all this time… our time has come
Here we are … still going' strong
Right here in the place where we belong…

its all about good spirits and friendship... Lions Roar 2009

Lions Roar 2009 came to an end on 19th September 2009 midnight… I’m sure all of us had something to take back that night other than the loud echo with extremely loud off pitched singing ;) It was deffa a mixture between breath taking performances to absolutely hilarious. But at the end of the day it’s the synergy of Leos and Lions joining hands to do something different than “service first” Not all of us can sing, nor all of us can dance, its just an attempt to perform in front of your own people and enjoy to fullest(some did it for the first time in their lives)

I heard lot of compliments for a great show as well as lot of complaints for headaches for loud singing that sucks. But it was clear that many enjoyed in their own way except for a very few… After all it’s not everyday we see the Chief Guest dancing on stage nor audience clapping for off beat dancing. I admit there were many flaws on our end for starters we never started on time. But that was an opportunity to many participants who missed the practice session with the group. Band Leader said “teaching these people to sing on track is like teaching horses with broken legs to run a race” But I’m also sure that he would have never had such a hyped crowd jumping on to the stage and dancing for any concerts they played for.

I’m glad that all of us see things crystal clear except for a very few of us who were actually great performers but decided to back off at the last moment. In basic terms a team means “Together Everyone Achieves More” but there are certain times when attempts are taken to step back by certain people, naturally the rest move forward. Sometimes concerned, sometimes pretty much unconcerned ;) Sometimes TEAM doesn’t have to be your own club members, when they ditch you, the courage is given by others around you who naturally become a part of your team… at the end, it’s the ultimate result which gives credit to everyone who were a part of the team… for those who stepped aside, sorry to say they will have to prove they are worth a chance… they missed a chance to be a part of the family, they missed the chance of being a part of friendship and good spirits… most of all they missed the chance of being apart of the best Lions Roar ever…

who said dancing is easy?

Dancing for Lions Roar was never easy... Getting a bunch of extreeeeemly busy people (well that's what we say about ourselves) together at one time drives you mad... specially when you have to keep on calling them giving reminders to make sure everybody is there on one day one time...

There are certain days some get late to wake up, some are un-reachable, reachable ones don't answer the phones, and the ones who answer the phones bluff....

Selecting the oldest funny songs, making hideous dances and acts & then actually practicing for it is the part i enjoy most... None of us can dance, some of us can act... But all of us try to do both whenever we all finally get together for practices....

Vince Lambordy said "Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect" we try to make our practices perfect but end up laughing most of the times and fighting at certain times... Practicing miming is difficult for me... Chamal finds it difficult to jump around with the broom and Prabath always argues about wanting to wear a huge cow boy hat.... and Osa... never remembers the songs he dances to, leave aside remembering the steps... Expressions and chemistry plays a huge role in our dance... For some of us it is the toughest and for some ahem... it comes out just perfectly natural ;)

Our extreemly busy non dancers have loads of commitments even on the day of the dance... Cricket Matches, Basket Ball matches, Cima classes, training programs at office and the list goes on...

God knows at what time we all will get together for Lions Roar 2009... and god knows what we will end up doing... but i'm sure about one thing... whatever the arguments, fights and troubles we had during practicing... we all will miss the crazy practicing sessions big time...

self MOTIVATED Leos to "reach the unreached"

The word ‘de-motivation’ is not in our dictionary. We can’t afford to be de-motivated because we happen to go through that phase everyday. Waking up late with alarm not working, getting late to catch the bus, assignments late, deadlines almost missed, plus PC is busted with all details not backed up, just when you are about to make an urgent phone call, the mobile is disconnected, you get blasted by your boss for some fault you didn’t do and your friend gets credit for the work you did… and the list goes on…

In a world full of de-motivation, we don’t get to be de-motivated, specially if we happen to be engaged in a volunteer service organization… We Leos should have the enthusiasm to strive for the hype to create that difference will build a life of a less fortunate…

We joined a team to share one common vision of serving the community, sharing the same vision is essential to reach one goal as a team and to reach the unreached as one focus without any individual expectations for the team to go a long way.

There are moments where we have to forgoe certain individual expectations, attitudes and beliefs to work together to give a hand to someone who needs hand… We are motivators who should take the step forward towards people who really need to be motivated…

As Leos there are times we don't get recognized and appreciated. We need to go back to our focus, look ahead of where we want to be... At the end of the day, we cant expect our team members to praise us on a project we did or thank us for coming to a meeting on time… want our team mates praising us on doing a project right... The recognition and appreciation is way below than the sense of satisfaction we feel of seeing a smile of a kid you've reached...

After all the golden rules always comes in handy... you can’t demand respect and recognition... you have to earn it!!!!

A new year with a new beginning with many new faces expected... It’s a year of expectation, happiness, inspirations and hopes which leads to one word "SERVICE"

with the motto "Reach the unreached"

we are leos of moratuwa orient

we are leos of moratuwa orient
its us...
